    TITLE: Legal Program Assistant
    RESPONSIBLE TO: Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel
    DIVISION/DEPART: Executive/Legal
    SUPERVISES: N/A
    FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

     

    This position is located in our Rockville, MD office and supports the Legal Team which consists of our Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel, Staff Attorney and Paralegal.  We are seeking a bright, proactive and detail-oriented candidate for this exciting entry-level opportunity.  For more information, please see the below description and apply today!


    BASIC FUNCTION:
    • Assist and provide support to Chief Legal Officer, Staff Attorney, and Legal Department
    • Serve as liaison for Legal Department

    Responsibilities

    • Assist with bequest management, organize bequest files, and track upcoming court dates and record funds received
    • Assist in trademark protection of the Goodwill® brand
    • Assist with contract management and review
    • Assist in compliance activities such as research and staff training
    • Process legal invoices, prepare check requests, and prepare expense reports for legal personnel and budget tracking
    • Maintain spreadsheets and logs for trademark infringements, bequests, legal expenses,etc.
    • Draft routine correspondence
    • Review and summarize miscellaneous industry newsletters
    • Provide assistance for special projects
    • Conduct research on various legal topics
    • General administrative duties (copy, scan, file, data entry, FedEx tracking, etc.)

     

    RELATIONSHIPS:
    • Internal: Work closely with the Chief Legal Officer/General Counsel, Staff Attorney, Paralegal and the Member Service Team
    • GII Members: Occasional contact with membership
    • Outside: Outside contact with law firms, vendors and governmental agencies
    • Government Officials: N/A

    Qualifications

    • Organization skills - maintain calendars, track multiple deadlines, maintain files
    • Technology skills - must be proficient in Word and Excel, performing a variety of computer tasks such as typing letters, preparing envelopes, and creating spreadsheets
    • Have great attention to detail while still meeting deadlines
    • Teamwork-ability to work with people at all levels
    • Good time management with ability to multi-task
    • Research and writing skills - locating foreign counsel, gathering information, and proofreading
    • Discretion in handling confidential information

     

    EDUCATION: Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred


    EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years related work experience


    DECISION MAKING: Decisions related to priorities


    SUPERVISION: None


    PHYSICAL EFFORT: Sedentary, lifting 10lbs. maximum

    Walking or standing is required only occasionally

    Requires long hours at a computer


    EMOTIONAL EFFORT: Work environment may have periods of high stress

    Will need a positive attitude to meet daily challenges
